The short version

What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Weatheride (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Weatheride mobile application (the “App”). It also describes your choices and rights.

Throughout this Policy we distinguish between information that stays on your device and information that is stored on our servers. Only the opt-in Ride History feature (Section 2.D) stores anything on our servers.

Information We Collect

A. Anonymous Account Identifier

When you first open the App, it creates an anonymous account consisting of a randomly generated identifier. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact detail — we do not ask for any of those. It exists only so that Ride History entries you choose to store can be tied back to your device and, when you ask, deleted.

B. Rider Preferences You Provide (On Device)

Your riding comfort thresholds (temperature range, precipitation tolerance, wind chill threshold, riding speed, riding-hours window, bad-hour tolerance, unit system) are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.

C. Location Data (Sensitive)

Weatheride uses location to provide local weather and riding guidance.

D. Weather Conditions

We retrieve weather conditions for your current or saved location (current and/or forecasted) to provide weather displays and ride recommendations.

E. Ride History and Ride Details (Opt-In Feature)

Ride History is off by default. Nothing in this section is collected until you turn it on in Rider Preferences → Riding History. Once enabled, you decide how much to record for each ride.

Quick log (“Rode today”). When you tap “Rode today,” we store on our servers:

Ride Details (optional, per ride). After logging a ride you may add more detail. Every field below is your choice; you can leave any of them blank, change them later, or clear them:

Ride Details are shown only to you. They are not used for the community metric described in Section 3 and are not shared with other riders.

F. Nearby Riders (Opt-In, Aggregate Only)

When Ride History is enabled, the App can show how many riders near you reported riding today. To do this it sends your coordinates, rounded to roughly a 1 km grid on the device, and receives back a single number. Only a count is ever returned: you never see who those riders are, and they never see you. Your own ride is left out of the number shown to you.

G. Platform Crash Logs (Apple / Google)

Weatheride does not include its own crash-reporting or analytics software. However, if the App crashes, Apple (via App Store Connect) or Google (via Google Play Console) may share a crash log with us only if you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with app developers in your device settings. Those logs may include device model, operating system version, app version, and a technical stack trace of the crash. They do not include your location, preferences, or ride data, and we use them only to fix bugs.

H. Support Communications

If you contact us, we collect the information you provide (for example, your email address and the content of your message).

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Ads

Weatheride does not contain ads, including third-party targeted advertising.

When We Share Information

A. Service Providers

We share limited information with service providers that help us operate the App:

These providers may process information only on our behalf and for the purposes described in this Policy, and are expected to protect it.

B. Other Riders

The only thing other riders ever see that is derived from your data is an aggregate count of riders in an area (Section 2.F). Your ride dates, locations, Ride Details, and notes are never shown to other users.

C. Legal and Safety

We may disclose information if required by law or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the App, or others (for example, responding to valid legal requests).

Your Choices and Controls

A. Location Permissions

You can change location permissions at any time in your device settings. If you disable location access, you can still use saved locations, but current-location weather and ride guidance will not function.

B. Ride History On/Off (Opt-In)

You can enable or disable Ride History at any time from Rider Preferences → Riding History.

C. What Happens When You Turn Ride History Off

When you turn Ride History off, we stop collecting and storing new ride entries and the nearby-rider count is no longer requested. Your existing entries are kept in a paused state so you can re-enable Ride History later and keep your previously stored data. If you would rather they be removed, use the delete option below.

D. Editing or Removing Individual Ride Details

Tap any ride in the Ride History tab (or the “Add ride details” button on today’s card) to view, change, or clear the details you recorded for that ride. Clearing a field removes it from our servers on save.

E. Permanently Deleting Your Ride History

The Delete My Ride History button on the Rider Preferences screen permanently deletes every ride entry — including all Ride Details and notes — from our servers. It is always available, regardless of whether Ride History is currently on or off, and takes effect immediately.

This deletes server-side ride data only. Your riding preferences and saved locations remain on your device; you can clear those by removing the App from your device.

You may also request help with deletion, or ask us to delete your anonymous account identifier itself, by contacting admin@weatheride.com.

Restricted Parts of the App and How to Access Them

Weatheride’s core features rely on location to deliver accurate weather and ride guidance. Some functionality is restricted unless you enable specific permissions or settings:

Sensitive / High-Risk Permissions

Weatheride uses the following sensitive permission:

Weatheride does not request access to SMS, Call Logs, Contacts, Camera, Microphone, or similar high-risk permissions, and does not track your location in the background.

Target Audience and Content

Weatheride is designed for a general audience who want motorcycle riding guidance based on weather and their preferences.

The App provides weather information, riding guidance, and optional ride logging and motivational insights.

Weatheride is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us at admin@weatheride.com.

Data Retention

Security Practices

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, such as access controls, encryption in transit, and ongoing maintenance and monitoring. Server-side ride data is protected by row-level access rules so that each anonymous account can read, change, and delete only its own entries. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and improve our safeguards over time.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will update the effective date and provide notice in the App where appropriate.
